A Giant Gift for Ganuk and Henry
When a pumpkin grows too big for the competition, it doesn't go to waste—not in our region. A massive 1,711-pound pumpkin from Aidie Creek Gardens in Englehart found its second life this fall, getting donated to the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat.
The giant squash is heading to residents Ganuk and Henry, our polar bears. It's the kind of thing that makes you smile—a whole community looking out for one another, even across species. The bears get a special treat, and that pumpkin gets to be exactly what it was meant to be: nourishment for creatures we care about.
That's Cochrane country, right there.
“Uncle Sam says: That's what we do up here—we look after our own, feathered, furred, or growing in the ground.” — Uncle Sam
